Zacheta Lower Silesian Fine Arts Association was founded in 2004 with the decision of a former Minister of Culture Waldemar Dąbrowski and the Mayor of Wroclaw Rafał Dutkiewicz. The institution was established within the National Cultural Program “Sign of the Times”.

Being a nongovernmental institution, the association joins the representatives of artistic environment and Wroclaw’s city officials. Its goal is to create a modern art collection, support the creative activity, promote the modern art, and cooperate with the Wrocław Contemporary Museum. The institution’s president is Jacek Szewczyk; and the honorary president – Rafał Dutkiewicz. The decisions on acquiring new works for the collection and other association activities are supervised by the Artistic Board.
