Fran Galović Library and Reading Room Koprivnica

The library was established in 1945 and became a budget beneficiary in 1954, meaning that it was professionalized and financed from the city's budget since then. The library was given the function of the county central library in 1996, thus becoming the central library of Koprivnica-Križevci County, and at the same time its centre of excellence. The library has a rich tradition, with the first reading room being founded in 1848 and the first parish library in Koprivnica dating to 1650. Dijana Sabolović-Krajina emphasizes that “it is important to point out that librarianship and an organized culture of reading and literacy date back 350 years.”

The library has the highest percentage of membership in Croatia: 30% of the citizens of Koprivnica are members of the Library, and the desired percentage is 15%. Through the working model of the Library called “The Library is More Than Books,” the Library has a developed secondary library activity through its cultural, educational and promotional activities, which are reflected in projects, exhibitions, literary meetings, workshops and forums. The work of the library is has been validated by a series of awards of local, national and international significance.

Freedom and Peace Movement

The Freedom and Peace Movement (Ruch "Wolność i Pokój", WiP) was a Polish opposition group set up in 1985. What triggered the creation of the WiP was the trial and imprisonment of Marek Adamkiewicz, a conscientious objector, in 1984. Originally a grassroots initiative, the Freedom and Peace Movement evolved into a pacifist, anti-communist, environmentalist, and human rights organization, which became one of the most active opposition groups in Poland. It collaborated with similar organizations in Western Europe, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and the GDR. Initially, the WiP operated in Warsaw, Krakow, Gdańsk and Wrocław. Its members represented diverse political persuasions including pacifism, anarchism, national conservatism, and Catholic social thought. The WiP took part in the 1988 strikes, triggered the 1988 reform of military service which introduced alternative civilian service for conscripts, and led the successful protests against the construction of the Żarnowiec nuclear power plant. The group got marginalized in 1988/89 and disbanded itself in 1992.

Centrul de Dialog şi Cultură Friedrich Teutsch

Centrul de dialog şi cultură Friedrich Teutsch al Bisericii Evanghelice C.A. din România (Casa Teutsch) reprezintă una dintre cele mai active instituţii culturale ale minorităţii germane din România. Consistoriul Superior al Bisericii Evanghelice C.A. din România a creat acest centru cultural pentru a adăposti cele mai importante arhive private privind comunitatea săsească din Transilvania. Între 1922 şi 1990 CasaTeutsch a fost doar locul de păstrare a arhivei Consistoriului Superior. După 1990, conducerea Bisericii Evanghelice C.A. din România a decis să centralizeze la Casa Teutsch din Sibiu arhivele parohiale ale cultului din întreaga ţară în scopul protejării şi punerii în valoare a acestor fonduri ecleziastice. În momentul de faţă, Centrul de dialog şi cultură Friedrich Teutsch este format dintr-o arhivă, un muzeu şi o bibliotecă. Arhiva centrului a fost deschisă publicului în anul 2004 şi are în custodie fondul Consistoriului Superior, fondurile parohiale, fondul fotografiilor, precum şi o serie de fonduri sau colecţii private. Deşi o parte importantă a inventarului fondurilor parohiale a fost disponibilă cercetătorilor încă din 2004, arhiviştii de la Casa Teutsch încă lucrează la finalizarea acestui inventar. Casa Teutsch a dezvoltat colaborări cu instituţii similare (arhive ecleziastice) din spaţiul de limbă germană. Centrul organizează expoziţii în parteneriat cu alte instituţii precum muzee sau arhive. Una dintre aceste colaborări s-a finalizat cu organizarea expoziţiei de artă „Ein Weg wie hundert Leben“ (Un drum cât o sută de vieţi) semnată de Renée Renard, expoziţie care ilustrează deportarea în 1945 a membrilor adulţi ai comunităţii germane din România în URSS (în acest caz şvabii bănăţeni). Centrul adăposteşte de asemenea şi o instituţie parteneră care organizează evenimente culturale şi publică literatură teologică: Institutul pentru Studii Ecumenice din Sibiu (Institut für Ökumenische Forschung Hermannstadt).

Fund for Aiding the Poor (SZETA)

The Fund for Aiding the Poor was established in the late autumn of 1979 by Hungarian intellectuals thinking outside of official communist party lines. Its founders were Gábor Havas, Gábor Iványi, Gabriella Lengyel, Magdolna Matolay, András Nagy, Bálint Nagy, Katalin Pik, and Ottília Solt. According to its founding concept, SZETA was a spontaneous non-governmental initiative, with the aim of helping those families in need who, in some way, fell through the official public safety net. Through contributors known and anonymous, they collected money, clothing, food, toys, and books for children, which they directly distributed to mostly poor families in the countryside. Apart from these benefits in cash and in kind, members also carried out social work on a voluntary basis: they completed applications and provided legal aid to their often illiterate clients.
